Location Questions:

Q. Where is Timbernest located?

A.  Timbernest is located near the base of Peak 9 in Breckenridge near Maggie’s Pond.  Timbernest is a short walk (or ski) to the Quicksilver lift.  To get to Breckenridge from the Denver International Airport (DEN), drive about 80 miles on westbound I-70 to exit 203 for Breckenridge/Frisco.  Follow the roundabout and continue on southbound highway 9.  Drive about 10 miles and continue on  Main Street once you reach Breckenridge.  Turn right on Broken Lance Drive near the gas station.  Continue about one block.  Turn right on Columbine Road.  Timbernest will be on the left.  The total trip from Denver International Airport to Timbernest is about 110 miles and can be driven in about two hours depending upon traffic and weather conditions.

 

Q.  How do I get to the lift from Timbernest?

A.  Timbernest is a short walk (or ski) from the Quicksilver lift at the base of Peak 9.  Refer to this Breckenridge trail map or this Google Earth map to see just how close we are to the lift.  According to the path outlined on the Google Earth map the distance from Timbernest to the base of the Quicksilver lift is about 300 yards Usually Columbine Road is snow covered during the winter months.  If so, ski down the street to the path marked by the Charter Sports ski and snow board rental sign near the Marriott Mountain Valley Lodge.  It’s a steep narrow downhill ski to the bridge crossing the creek that leads to Maggie’s Pond.  Once you cross the bridge you are essentially at the base of the Quicksilver Lift and near lift tickets, ski school, and ski rental shops.

 

Q.  Is the unit close enough to return from the slopes for lunch?

A. Q.  How close are Vail, Keystone, and other ski resorts?

A. Keystone is about 15 miles away.  Copper Mountain is about 20 miles away.  Vail is about 40 miles away.  Beaver Creek is about 45 miles away.  All these resorts are about a 30 to 60 minute drive depending upon traffic and weather conditions.

 

Q.  How close is Timbernest to the slopes?

A.  The path outlined on this Google Earth Map from Timbernest to the base of the Quicksilver lift is about 300 yards.

 

Q.  It’s snowing like crazy.  Is the Eisenhower tunnel on I-70 open?  What are alternate routes to/from Denver/Breckenridge?

A.  The Colorado Department of Transportation website is one place that may be used to check the road conditions near the Eisenhower and Johnson tunnels.  A live webcam of the tunnels may also be viewed here.  To view other webcams of I-70 click here.

    To avoid I-70 completely from Denver International Airport to Breckenridge, take Pena Road to exit 6A for E-470 south, a toll road.  Keep left on Colorado 470 west and then merge on to US 285 south.  Turn right on to Colorado 9 and continue into Breckenridge.  Please consult your map or GPS for more detailed instructions.

    To bypass the Eisenhower tunnel from Denver and still get to Breckenridge, head west on I-70.  Then go north on U.S. 40 and head to Winter Park.  Continue west on U.S. 40 shortly after passing through Granby.  At Kremmling, head south on U.S. 9 until you meet up with I-70 again near Silverthorne.  Please consult your map or GPS for more detailed instructions.

 

Q. Are we required to have chains during the winter months when driving to Breckenridge?

A.  By law, only commercial vehicles must carry chains and use them in inclement weather.

 

Q.  How close is the nearest grocery store?  Can I get groceries delivered to Timbernest?

    The Breckenridge stores are just minutes from Timbernest.  The Frisco stores are about 20 minutes away near I-70.  Peak Provisions is a food provisioning and meal planning service that delivers  food from a wide selection of menu items.

 

 

 

 

Questions Regarding Timbernest Amenities:

Q.  Is there a telephone in the unit?

A.  There is no telephone in the unit however most major cell phone providers provide service in and around Breckenridge.  Please verify with your cell phone carrier as to availability in Breckenridge prior to your departure.

 

Q.  What cell phone service is available in Breckenridge?

A.  Most major U.S. wireless companies offer service in and around Breckenridge.  Refer to the coverage maps for Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, U.S. Cellular, AT&T for more information.   Please verify coverage with your cellular provider before your arrival in Breckenridge.

 

Q.  Do I need a rental car?

A.  It is possible to enjoy your trip to Breckenridge without a rental car.  Several companies including Colorado Mountain Express and Powderhound Transport offer shuttle service to and from Denver International Airport to Breckenridge for a fee.  Once you arrive in Breckenridge there is a free shuttle service with a convenience stop near Timbernest.  Breckenridge Free Ride provides free transportation around Breckenridge has numerous stop in and around Breckenridge.  And, of course, Timbernest is only a quick walk (or ski) away from the Quicksilver chair lift.  Timbernest is also an easy 5 minute walk to Maggie’s Pond and Main Street

 

Q.  Where can I store my skis at the end of the day?

A.  Each Timbernest unit has a ski locker for guest’s use.  The combination to the lock will be provided to you prior to your arrival.  The ski locker is large enough for several pairs of skis, boots, and poles.

 

Q.  Your site says there are laundry facilities on site.  How does that work?  Is laundry detergent provided?

A.  There is a convenient laundry facility complete with two washing machines and two dryers near our unit.  Use of the laundry facility is free for guests but guests must provide their own laundry detergent and other consumables.

 

Q.  Your site says the unit has a full kitchen.  What appliances are there for our use?

A.  Feel free to use the microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and George Foreman grill.

 

Q.  Are there any toys or games for my young children to play with while at your unit?

A.  There are a variety of puzzles and games for children as well as an Xbox gaming system and a DVD library with several family and children’s titles.  A second DVD player is available in a bedroom so the children can watch DVDs.

 

Q.  Does your unit have a BluRay disc player if I bring my own movies?

A.  Our unit has two DVD players but neither are BluRay players.  One DVD player is found in the living room and the other in the bedroom with the king size bed and Xbox gaming system.

 

Q.  Can I grill during my stay?

A.  Grilling is allowed at Timbernest.  There is a large charcoal grill and picnic tables available on site on a first come, first served basis for all Timbernest guests.  You must provide your own charcoal.  Charcoal grills are not permitted at individual Timbernest units.

 

 

 

Questions About Activities in Breckenridge:

 

Q.  What is there to do for non-skiers?

A.  Non-skiers will surely enjoy a relaxing winter vacation in the mountains.  We’ve had non-skiers in our family tell us they had a very enjoyable vacation while reading a novel or watching DVDs, visiting the outlet mall or shopping on Main Street, going to the movies, swimming in the heating outdoor pool on site, relaxing in one of the four (two indoor, two outdoor) hot tubs on sites, or by visiting museums and/or visitor centers.  There are also numerous restaurants, bars, and coffee shops in Breckenridge.  In addition, Vail is less than an hour away and it also offers many additional activities for both skiers and non-skiers.  We’ve assembled a list of activities for visits to Breckenridge during any time of the year.

 

Q.  What is there to do during the summer?

A.  A variety of summer activities are available in and around Breckenridge.  In fact, we’ve dedicated a whole page to activities near Breckenridge for the various seasons.  Summers are beautiful in Breckenridge.  Mild days and a plethora of outdoor and indoor activities attract people with many different interest.  Some outdoor summer activities include:  golf, fishing, hiking, swimming, biking, sailing/boating, rafting, and hot air ballooning.

 

Q.  Where can I take my kids sledding around Breckenridge?

A. The town of Breckenridge features a walk-up, ride down sledding hill at Carter Park.  Kids, adults and dogs all enjoy a short walk up the former ski slope followed by a thrilling ride down. The park is located at the south end of High Street and adjacent to Breckenridge Elementary School.  Click here for a map of Carter Park in Breckenridge, Colorado.

    From Main Street in Breckenridge, go east on Lincoln Street for 4 blocks, then turn right on High Street and follow it 3 for blocks.  High Street dead ends at Carter Park, with plenty of parking available.  Snow tubes and sleds are available for purchase at the City Market and Food Kingdom grocery stores in town.  No rentals are available.
